I'm finding it hard to find anywhere that stocks these on my local high street, so it seems that my best bet is £17 for 4 at john lewis - does anyone have any other suggetsions? i am in central london, but have tried the obvious places - supermarkets, woolworths, robert dyas, argos -without success - any ideas?

Have you looked in IKEA - I was in the Birmingham Branch and although I did not see what you are after I was not looking for them either. There was a fair range may not be top quality but they may provide a stop gap.0

Marks and Spencer have various champagne flutes -
Optic champagne flute - £4 each
6 Seville champagne flutes - £15
threaded glass flute - £5 each
6 Maxim champagne flutes - £12
and a few other choices

Thanks very much! I should have mentioned that I haven't been to ikea as I don't have a car.
The M & S seville or maxim flutes look great - am just going to go to my ocal store and see if I can order them, if not, I should be able to pick them up in a big brqanch - and I have an M&S bonus card, so should be able to use my vouchers - thanks a lot!0 -
You're very welcome! Glad I could help.0

Even better - when I got to M&S, they were selling the champagne flutes singly for a £1 each, also large wine glasses ( of the "red wine" shape, which are nice and sturdy) for £1 each, tumblers and hi-balls for 50p each and some nice heavy glass jugs for £5. Much cheaper than everywhere else I looked and (apart from the flutes) all looked quite resilient.
I bought a dozen and am very pleased with them, so may be buying some more as according to the staff, they don't sell glasses individually all year round, mostly it is just the more expensive multipacks..0 -
I'm not surprised you were finding it hard to locate champagne flutes since the Mr Brown did not increase the tax on champers in last weeks budget.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)0
