Fiat were doing 0% on a range of cars. Als just had a look and vauxhall are doing it on a range of cars as well. Vauxhall and Fiat
  • Do not rely on 0% deals. Last year I bought my wife a new Corsa (03) and in the local showrooms (we tried three in 35 miles) the cost was £9,000 to £9,500 for the one we wanted but it was interest free!

Instead got it on line from Lloyds TSB Car Select for £6,300 with interest it works out at about £7,000. Sorry the offer is long gone but look around on the Interweb thingy. It was a UK car and came with a full 3 year warranty etc and was delivered to the door on a low loader.

The moral being that interest free can be more expensive as the cost of the interest has to be included somewhere!
  • We brought a new car using a personal loan then took out an Egg card with 0% interest on balance transfers. Phoned them and got them to transfer the maximum credit to our personal account, paid off the personal loan and now we have the car loan at 0%.

Just need to transfer the balance every 6 to 9 months and you can vary the amount you pay off each month :D

  • Now is the best time to buy a new car as garages have lean sales at Christmas.

I bought a Peugeot 307xsi 2 years ago at Christmas for just over £3000 off list with 0% credit & free tank of petrol. Unlike some credit deals with gargaes you can pay off any lump sum or the whole lot off without any penalty at any time. So, i put my cash away into shares/savings and saved an extra £700.00.

  • Many thanks for all those that replied. I think I will have plenty to look at over the next few weeks. I agree that perhaps I don't need the 0% just a good deal with a good rate. Merry Christmas.

Sometimes you can get both. Try Carfile run by Pat Lawless, often featured in What Car. He's a broker and can offer great discounts and can match any dealer incentives like 0% finance on top. I've bought a couple of cars through him without a hitch. He will fax you a quotation which you can use to beat down your local dealer - I've used that tactic once too.
