Application wants 2 personal referees

..So not employers!

I don't think I can put my old university tutor as I did end up dropping out but who would I put?! I mean, I don't know anyone who could be qualified to do this and they can't be related to me either....

I know a grand total of one properly professional person but he is a friend, it asks me to put what capacity I know them in, can I put 'friend'?!

Any other hints and tips are also appreciated as my interview is on Wednesday!

Do you have a GP, if I was stuck I think I would try them.

Yes, you can use friend, talk to your friend first and see if they will agree. Friend of the family may make it sound better, or longstanding friend if you've known them for a long time. You can put their profession in too.

How long ago did you leave university? If not too long, then phone and ask tutor. If they'll give a good positive reference, especially about your reasons for dropping out, then it's not a problem. Obviously you don't want to use them if you passed your uni days in a drunken stupor and failed all your exams.

Could you use any of your parents' friends, or parents of your friends?

OH YES!!!! my friend's mum was my childminder when I was younger lol. still in contact so she might do it and i think i will ask my other professional friend as i know he did a reference for another of his friends recently.

GP - never seen the same one twice at my doctor's so they are out.

I don't want to use my tutor as honestly they aren't really aware why I dropped out of university, no one really is!

Your childminder sounds like an excellent idea. I would describe her as 'longstanding family friend' however and make sure she concentrates on your grown up attributes. :rotfl:

It says they can't be my employers but could I use 'former colleague'?

To me a personal reference could be from anyone who knows you personally. They dont have to be a "professional" in my opinion. Could be friend, work collegue, next door neigbour, anyone who would be able to give a positive opinion on you.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

Agree with kitty, and yes you could use a former colleague.

the point is that it's not someone commenting on you as an employee, but as a person.

What kind of job is this, btw?

I wonder why they are asking for a personal referee - surely you are not going to give them the name of your worst enemy, so what's the point?
