Hello! Anyone on a journey to a house in the country with land?

Hi everyone

What a great thread this is! I've been floating on MSE for quite a while but never really got to explore this thread much :o

I just wondered if anyone was striving towards a house with land so they can keep animals etc and grow veg. We have a tiny 2 bed house in the middle of a town estate (hate it) with a TINY back garden but also lucky enough to have an allotment to grow veg. Sadly though we have no space at home for chickens (already got 2 bunnies taking up the garden) and our allotment won't allow it.

We would absolutely love a house in the country with a couple of acres...we have seen and been tempted in the past with houses in the country with a bigger garden (nuff for chickens) but we're put off by the thought of such a big mortgage to what we have now (we pay about £200 a month!) and think perhaps its best to stay where we are for now.

Would love to hear all your stories and plans for the future.......old style of course!

I think your dream is my dream too!

We would love to have a lot more outside space, OH had chickens (& pigs) when he was growing up & would like them again.

We are busy trying to get our savings up/mortgage down (offset mortgage) so we can move in a year or so - assuming we find the right house.

We would like to be in a village rather than the middle of nowhere as we have two LO's who we would like to have friends to play with.

We have other requirements, OH has a few motobikes so we need a bigger garage. We want a play room as well as 4 bedrooms. We would be happy to do some work.

See you have me wanting to swap over to right move now to see what is on at the moment....

Ha Ha sorry!!! O/H regularly checks out www.ruralscene.co.uk, its amazing what you can get with your money but not sure about the areas.

Do you know what village you want to live in? We've been eyeing up one in Northants as we go every 2 weeks to their butchers and local farm for free range egss, everyone is so friendly!

I would love a walk in pantry, a dining room so I can have friends round for a meal and 2 extra bedrooms!!!!

    Anything good on rightmove??????

Absolutely - this is my dream too:
We live in a rural location and have a vege patch but no room for chooks or other livestock.

I have a "good life" kind of dream

I would love to rescue a few battery hens and give them a nice free range retirement
Also would love a goose - great for mowing the lawn and good for the pot for christmas
Also a pig which could be reared free range - and from which we could fill the freezer
Finally a beehive - to make our own honey

Sounds perfect - who knows, maybe one day!

This is my dream. Whether it will become a reality is a different thing. H is tied to commuting to a job as I am not earning at the mo. We couldn't afford a larger mortgage and as given the current climate with redundancies etc I am not sure changing jobs (even if he could) would be a wise idea.

On the other hand his uncle is in Ireland on the family farm (dairy farmer). He has about 40 acres of land and is unmarried and no heirs. I do sometimes fantasize about what we'd do if he ever left us the farm but reality kicks in. I wouldn't want to be a dairy farmer (his uncle barely breaks even and he's not a man for spending money) and we have no experience. Still I think it's a shame the family farm could end up leaving the family........
