Post bankruptcy -discharge -advertise in Gazette

Is it worthwhile having my discharge advertised in the 'Gazette' ?

How much does it cost ?

I wondered whether worthwhile in so far as do the credit card companies pick up on it , and thus note i am discharged and thereby amend their records and thus make it unnecessary to write to them individually to get them to amend their records ?

Are there any other advantages/disadvantages of getting ones discharge advertised ?

many thanks

You don't have to do anything, the Gazette will update anyway.

What you need to do is start the credit file clean up process a little while after discharge. If you need to let anyone know about your discharge then ask your OR to send you a letter saying you are discharged, which he will do for free, then you can copy and send that.

If you look at the CRF clean up sticky it will explain howto do it.

This is still at back of my mind.

I believe you have to specifically request if you want discharge advertised -and you pay for the ad via the OR's office.

Does anyone know the cost of the bad.

Any other thoughts on advantages/disadvantages of having discharge advertised in Gazette.

    thanks
  • Hi marc3:

Your name is automatically printed in the London Gazette once you become bankrupt.
Your name may also appear in your local paper, I live in Manchester so my name will go in the Manchester Evening News.
    It is all done automatically.

The bankruptcy order automatically goes in the Gazette.

The discharge usually does not unless the OR or yourself wants it to.

You do it through the OR according to this.

xii Gazetting and advertising discharge from bankruptcy

A discharged former bankrupt is entitled to request that notice of the discharge be published in the London Gazette (and also in the same manner as the bankruptcy order may otherwise have originally been advertised). Such notices may only be gazetted (and otherwise advertised) at the former bankrupt’s expense and if the costs are forthcoming, the official receiver is required to publish a gazette notice. However, no steps should be taken toward publishing until the necessary funds have been received in full.

In cases where the ‘early discharge process’ has been applied, an order of discharge must not be gazetted until form EDNOT – ‘Notice of Discharge Form 6.82’ has been endorsed by the court and returned to the official receiver.

    May cost £55 +
