Note that the ethernet capability is NDAS rather than NAS so the drive will not be accessible using TCP/IP but by using installed drivers for Windows/Linux etc and so only visible from a PC with the drivers installed.
Ok - you sound like you know what you're talking about!
Does that have any implications when it comes to streaming movies?
I've always wanted to get a drive specifically to store movies on and make them available on more than one PC (across a network), but haven't bought any hardware to do it yet, or read up on it.
Installing drivers on each PC wouldn't be a problem, but would the transfer rate be good enough to prevent any stuttering?0 -

Hmmm, good question. I'd like to know the answer too, I'm thinking that if TCP isnt supported then you wont be able to, but I'll bow to others that know better (and there will be lots!)One by one the penguins steal my sanity.0 -
Suppose the drive is connected to your router by ethernet.
Could you access the drive from your xbox running XBMC? (without switching on the PC) to enable video and/or music streaming.
If you could, then it's a bargain!0 -

if you can do this ill buy one, fantastic
Unlikely the manual says you need to install drivers and then mount the device, Theres also no indication you can give it a TCP/IP address and use it directly, only access it via the drivers.

It can only be accessed by one machine at a time. It has security keys so I guess it would be harder to hack remotely if you want a backup drive. Good price for a USB/ eSata drive, but don't buy it if you think you want a Network attatched drive.
The firmware makers (Ximeta) say
NDAS has it's own proprietry driver and does not use TCP/IP so I guess it's PC only ( or get a Ethernet to USB adapter like the Darkstar by Aria, but thats another £35 on top and you may as well buy a NAS unti to start with)0 -
500GB External Hard Drive £34.99 @ Lidl starting on the 13th June http://www.lidl.co.uk
Given it will probably have a Sata Drive and there are no OEM drive makers other than the usual big boys, it's almost worth buying it, ripping the drive out and putting it in a PC, as 500GB sata's are more than £35 at the mo..0 -
That was basically my thought, it does seem cheap. I saw someone selling something similar second hand and they wanted more then £35
Maybe that has nicer drivers, ease of use counts for alot but how hard can it be if its just a usb drive and preformatted too looks like0 -
13Th June seems very odd start date as thats on a Saturday, i can see 11Th and 15Th online and it not mentioned , maybe its area specific ?0
