Thanks for your replies everyone. I was planning on applying for a job within the NHS and Maths seems to be an important one. Unfortunately, I got an E in Maths at school. I have everything else but maths. I did start to retake maths when I was at college and was predicted a B but had to leave due to financial difficulty.

You will find that Maths & English (and equivalents) are stated as being essential creteria for many PS jobs. It is part of the numbers game and if you don't meet the essential criteria then there is little point in applying. However if you have equivalents but are uncertain if they will count then your best option is to GCSE Maths. Check out your local council for help, advice & assistance, they will be glad to help.

I am currently resitting my maths GCSE at a local college as an external candidate.

When I sat them originally i got a D in Maths and have since done gained an accoutancy degree, however for me to sit another course that I wish I needed a C. So in January I contacted my local college and asked them the question..it cost me £66 payable to the college and I purchased books etc.

I am sitting AQA modular 4307 which is 4 exams, I have today sat my 2nd one and have another 2 to sit in the next month.

Good luck if you chose to do it.

i retook my maths and English GCSEs at 21, and would recommend it.

The college I went to were very friendly and treated everyone like an adult.
I got a B in English and C in maths at the end of it and it helped a lot when applying for jobs and universities.

In work they run external 1 week crash courses in English & Maths.

I would like to increase an English Grade in GCSE, as this is one of the requirements to change jobs if i ever wanted too..

    I have a D in English, but i have a -

    Advanced Modern Apprenticeship
NVQ Level 3 in Aeronautical Maintenance
    BTEC
    Key Skills
    Many City & Guilds

But i still need a GCSE English of C and above.

    Madness..

Not really madness - you don't need to have a particularly good grasp of English to gain the qualifications you have. Anyway, although technically you're trying to "increase" your English grade, in reality, most people will consider a grade D to be a fail.
