New Manager Resources

Hello

I potentially have a new job coming up with line management responsibility in the next few months. Could anybody point me in the direction of any good resources that I could use to get an idea of what makes a good people manager? I'm certain it can't be learnt from a book and nothing will beat eventual experience - but if I could pick up some hints and tips along the way I'm sure it will help.

I fully intend to explore whatever support I can get from work too but initially this could be pretty limited.

Thanks :)

Human Resource Management Practice by Michael Armstong is a pretty hefty book with all sorts in, mainly aimed towards HR but still has paragrpahs on managing people! Other than that there are a few books in waterstones that are for managers.
