morrisons do a bag of chopped garlic for 50p frozen. Great value and you just use it as you would fresh from frozen. Its about 4 or 5 bulbs worth in a bag. Dont shop there but mother in law always gets us some as it much easier than keeping the fresh one
I've never tried that but it sounds really handy! I buy both garlic paste and fresh garlic- I keep the fresh stuff in the fridge, but I agree it's tedious to chop and peel- try hitting the cloves with the handle of your knife before peeling them and it makes it a wee bit easier.

I just chuck the garlic at random into the same kitchen cupboard I keep tins in. It seems to keep fine there and it's a relatively warm kitchen.

Then to cut, firstly I cut about 3/4 of the way through the clove at the root end and then snap the rest off which should pull some of the skin away. Then similarly with the top end, though no cut is needed. The rest of the unwanted dried skin should just fall away.

Then I slice it with a very sharp knife, I enjoy the next bit so it's not tedious for me. Tedious is the washing-up!

Garlic Peelers are the way forward! It's amazing - don't know how it works but it does. It's like a plastic tube , you put the clove of garlic in there, roll it around on a hard kitchen surface and then amazing out pops a clove of garlic minus the skin!! I picked one up in Asda 2 or three months ago for little over a pound if that, it was a great buy

I keep my garlic in the fridge, it seems to last for ages.

I bought a garlic crusher from Ikea years ago and that has been fantastic, no peeling etc, and you don't have the smell on your hands. I like the sound of that thing from Asda aswell!

I second this, mine stays fresh for ages in the fridge, I just slice the smallest bit off the end and it peels easily too.
Real men never follow instructions; after all they are just the manufacturer's opinion on how to put something together. :p

I wrap mine in foil and keep it in the fridge, it keeps it really fresh. (I also use the rubbery tube thing to peel it - there is a knack to it but it really works, so no smelly hands)
  • I use my rubbery garlic peeler to peel loads (and loads) of cloves and then I blitz them with the 'chopper' bit on my hand blender. Then I freeze them in ice cube trays, once frozen I pop them in a tupperware container (well - old ice cream tub actually!) and I use a couple of chunks as I need them. This works well with garlic, ginger and chillies too (I'm always using them for curries!). I find it's a bit tedious at first but makes life so much easier in the long run!!! HTH
