European Union copyright law protects the composers of music within their lifetime and until 70 years after their death

Please also be aware that in the US the copyright expiry is far greater than that in the UK - this means that copyrights could also be owned in the US meaning that a UK artist could still be protected by non-EU copyrights.You don't have to mad to work here, but moo moo quack boing parsnips0

I believe the music offered by archive.org is legal - even in USA as it is an American site? (If recorded before 1958)0

If this 50 year thing is true then how long have I got until I can't start downloading Elvis music for free legally? I would look it up but I can't be bothered lol0
