Hang on, didn't most of the banks go bankrupt and have to be rescued by- oh yes US.
  • The reason the Hafilax and other sundry, well-meaning and benevolent financial institutions keep accounts open for as long as they can and continue to add charges to the proverbial dead horse is because it's a tax fiddle for them.

Any and all of the charges they add count towards the bad debt on their books and count against their eventual tax bill (hah! Like any of these insitutional blood-suckers ever really pay tax anyway!).

'Yers, Mr HMRC, yers, dreadful year. We made eleventy billion quid from fine upstanding nice people's account but just look at the costs we incurred on the smelly poor-people bankrupties ones - eleventy and a half billion quid in costs and charges we'll never see again. Sniffle. Maybe we'll pay some Corporation Tax next year...'

    Ker, as they say, Ching!
