doorstep collections?

hi,

Im having huge problems dealing with Halifax, i have a loan, an overdraft and credit card with. They have ignored all my previous letters and proposals to them (but ive continued to pay anyway what i can afford anyway), bombarded me with telephone calls and refused to stop interest or charges.

Now they have sent me a letter saying they are sending a doorstep rep to my home. Do i have to deal with him? can i refuse? i cant tell them anymore than i already have nor offer anymore than i have. I also dont want to deal witht his in front of my three children. Im feeling so on the edge and threatened by it all now. Ok so ive been an idiot and gotten into a mess but im paying it back as quick as i can-i cant give what i genuinely dont have? what do i do?

    Hi
Halifax were hell with me too.

I got the same card from them and wrote to them to tell them that I didn't want anyone calling at my home.

If someone does call they have no legal rights so tell them to bog off. You don't even have to answer the door to them.

Hellifax were awful with me - constant harrassment, refusal to accept my dmp etc - 7 months later they passed the debt on.

    Hi,

A 'door step' rep has no power or anything. IF they do send someone out and you answer the door you can 'politely' inform them of this and close the door. The cannot force you to let them in or anything. They might, however, lie to you and tell you different!!

There is a standard letter somewere, you can send to the Halifax to say dont send anyone around.

You have to be firm with these people!!!

Under OFT regulations they only have the right to visit with your prior agreement.

Just send them a letter to that effect and tell them you do not want home visit.

In part sending out the home visit letter is designed to get you to ring, so write now and send it first class today, registered post if possible.

I agree with all answers , they have come round to me , but they are toothless idiots, I would not ring halifax though, write to them with the harrassment letter telling them you will only deal with them by letter.

If you call them , they log it and will just continue calling, if you ignore them {by telephone} then they will eventually write.
Also , if you are in a dmp, who with ? are they giving you support?

I did this it was hard to start ,but remember on the phone they dont care or listen to you, they just want a payment, so it is pointless.

I did this to halifax and barclays two of the meanest, it worked. also copy all letters to your dmp advisor for your records.
