Job demotion

Options
Hi,

Looking for advice but I will keep it short as possible, my husband works offshore he had an injury at work and was off sick for about 4 weeks he passed his medical to go back to work and continued with his job for a week and was approached and asked to take a step down for lighter duties until he seen a specialist he had been getting full wages i.e for the job he is contracted to do but now they have deducted his wages and put them to a lower salary for the job he is presently doing, he has now spoken with his manager about this and has been told the company can demote and promote whenever they want and also why should he get his contracted salary for doing a lower grade job. He had been told that his wages wouldnt be effected.

He asked to just go back to his original job as he has seen the specialist and things have settled but his manager said he cant have his job back.

I am really annoyed at this  as the injury occurred at work and he went back to work as soon as he could and always kept in touch and followed the rules.

Can anyone advise me if the company can treat people like this.

thank you
