Equity Release

Hello. I have a mortgage with Halifax and want to release equity to buy another property on a buy to let basis. They have refused as they say it is against their lending criteria. I was under the impression that I could use my money (and it is mine through increased property value) for any legitimate use. Apparently though if I do my buy to let through Birmingham Mid Shires (one of Halifax's companies) they will lend me the money. This seems like bribery to me. Thought I'd check this out as you don't always get the right info on the phone from call centres.

Many thanks.

halifax do not do buy to let, but as the mortgage is secured on your residential property, it should not matter tool much what the reason you are capital raising for

Birmingham Midshires is a subsidary that do buy to let.
