Term Time only Staff and pay

Only I wouldn't call it a break if I was supervising little 'orrors ... :rotfl:You are correct, although in the 2 of the schools my o/h has worked there was a requirement for breaktime supervision and so depending on when you did your supervision you got a paid break at either 1st break or midday break, this may be what katharine was talking about?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Looks like I'm mistaken I thought last time I checked you were entitled to 30 mins unpaid lunch and 20 mins paid break, plus more if you work for significantly longer. I can't find that now.0

I've been wondering, through the day, what the OP would prefer.
Would it be better for staff to be paid for the hours they work when they work them, and not to be paid anything through the long summer holiday?
For example, I used to employ some students during term-time, and others during school holidays. Very few of them had regular hours, so I used to calculate their leave entitlement every time they worked, and pay it to them at the end of term / school holiday. But they then got nothing more until they came back to work!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I am so sorry Savvy_Sue I completely missed your post!!!:o:o:oI've been wondering, through the day, what the OP would prefer.

There is a method behind my reasoning!!
Support staff contracts are usually for one year but are continuous service, their Salary is worked out as above. This means that any extra hours worked (which is considerable sometimes i.e. Parents evenings, trips etc) are not always paid as technically they are salaried. If they were paid as defered hourly paid staff (as a lot of other LA p/t staff are) with holiday paid at the time of taking (as per Working Time Regulation Act) then they would be paid for these extra hours as well as getting 12 equal monthly basic payments! Support Staff wages are notoriously low, most earn less than £8k yet are doing 10-15 hour extra hours a week for nothing!!!
I may be biased but if the L/As are disregarding the current legislation then I think they have a point to challenge it??Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0
