Shoe retailers seem to think if you have wide feet you must be a 90 year old granny.

Why the heck is that? The last time I had my feet measured in the kids department at Clarks I was told I'm a size 3H. I was 19 at the time (23 now) but I went to the kids department because they have wider sizes and I'm lucky enough to have small enough feet to buy childrens' sizes. I guess once you're out of childrens' shoes you're supposed to start practicing foot-binding. If I buy adults shoes I normally get a size 4 and a pair of heel grips to make them fit.
