Reebok free gift safety recall

Hello all

Not sure if this is the right place to post this so apologies in advance.

Reebok have issued a safety recall for a charm bracelet given as a free gift when purchasing childrens trainers.

Anxious parents should call its hotline number on 0800 305 050.

Details can be found here:

    Hmmm...interesting.

Whilst I am sure that "recalling" the bracelet is the correct thing to do because of it's potential danger, is this actually a recall or an instruction to dispose?
The charm-shaped bracelets were offered for free with purchases of Reebok children's trainers and other footwear in the UK, US and Irish Republic.
Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the charm bracelets away from children and dispose of the entire bracelet.
Now however you dress this up, it was actually an inducement to buy the Reebok product.

It doesn't state that Reebok are offering to send customers a replacement bracelet, so I wonder if they can take the worn out trainers back to Reebok or the store where they were purchased from for a full refund, as is normally the case on recalls?

My daughter has been wearing one of these and I obviously took it straight off her when I read the shocking info. in the media  . Now I am sure that one of the reasons my daughter chose the trainers was because of the bracelet so do I just throw it away or take the matter up with Reebok?

    Your thoughts would be appreciated.

typical of a huge company didnt bother their a**e to check the bracelet themselves to see if it was up to standard... had to let some poor child die first and leave a family devasted......
  • Ive just rung Reebok who say that you can either throw the bracelet away or send it back to them. The operator did not offer a refund, but just said if you send it back to us with your name and address, we will have your details on file so that if we decide to offer an alternative gift in the future we can send it out to you - however at the moment our priority is to get the bracelets out of circulation.

Yes but then when they are told they have to compensate those who have the bracelets, because they have either been thrown away or sent back will not have them as evidence.

I am furious that my daughter has been wearing hers and it could have been her who swallowed a link. The only reason she got the particular trainers is because they came with the bracelet!

The bracelet is currently out of the way on top of the kitchen cupboards until I decide what to do with it.
