mortgage advisors(how do you tell good from bad)

Options
Just had a visit from an independent mortgage advisor from a brokerage company. it seems like good advice he is offering but is it really and how do you tell. This is my first time on a forum site and don't really know the etiquette. Can i name the company and ask for any feed back? Oh well I'm doing it anyway so please tell me if it is out of order. Oh yes the company is lwf mortgages, the lwf stands for loan world finance. Any feed back you can give would be greatly appreciated.

.. go and see several and get a feel for the responses. Ask each one how much they earn from their advice (or how they get paid etc)..

Yep, as Wymondham said, try talking to a few different people. See if any friends or relatives can offer reccomendations, then ultimately go with your gut instinct. You're putting a great deal of trust in this person, so it's important that ou like them and feel you can ask them as many questions as you want.

The fact he is independent and not whole of market or panel based is a start. As you are paying for advice and not product purchase you should be in no doubts that the recommendation will include all lenders.

Most advice firms are small local companies and wouldnt be known to anyone on the internet. That said, the company you name is on the internet and their terms of busines is available. From that we can see that the company isnt independent. It is whole of market for mortgages and tied for insurance. So, if they have given the impression they are independent then that isnt a good start.

Look for horns, those bad brokers wear hats to hide them! LOL

Cheese does not always mean bad. Cheese with hard sell and insurance coming out of his ears is a put off.

I have a guy I worked with, he had extra cheese but his advice was solid. He also recommended insurance and put a lot on risk, but it was the right insurance for his client.

Recommendation is always the best way to find a broker, the closer the person to you and the more people that have used him/her the better.

If I was looking for a broker now, I would be looking for advice that looks at the short and the long term. way to much two year fixed mercheants out there. Also she must have blonde hair, blue eyes, tanned and a bikini!

As a 28 year old, 5'3" blond with blue eyes ex mortgage adviser I always assumed the business I did was the result of my high level of market knowledge and excellent advice! I stand corrected....... :D

I used to know a female adviser that would play her looks to get business. Although she never pushed it as far as a bikini ;)
