Sponsorship/Tax Breaks

First off if this is in the wrong section I appologise but I really did try to work out where would be best!

My question is I am after sponsorship for my Sunday league football team, I have been told that sponsorship of a club can be offset against tax for a business. I have looked on the Inland Revenue website but it was not meant for the common man to understand!I would like to know if it is true and cn someone give a practical example of how it works (so I can sell the idea)

We are an adults team and I am looking at getting 9/10 sponsors for a race night. None of these will be related to members of the club (although may be employers)

Make any sense?
