Hi all
Well, Im in a bit of a stress here.
I was stupid enough to cancel my rent payments to my landlord for a couple of months last year. The top and bottom of it is, that my arrears have now been cleared ( as of yesterday) apart form 41 quid which I can pay no problem. The landlord has contacted Abbey, my lender ( who are great) Im in shared ownership hence the rent/mortgage combo. Ive cleared my arrears by using this weeks rent. as the abbey were involved I couldnt risk defaulting this.
But what my l/l has done has meant that i have to pay the month, upfront, not a month in arrears. Meaning I have to magic £350 from thin air this week.
any ideas? I REALLY dont want to have to use my CC, as its barclaycard at 14.5% ( the one thats empty with the credit on ) and im making every effort to live fruglally as it is. Nothing left to sell, we have listed stuff on ebay, but not 350 worth even if the stuff does sell?!
What shall I do?!

Can you ask him if he will take half and half? ie £175 now and £175 in two weeks, then £350 the fortnight after (putting you ahead by the month he wants) so you have a bit of time to find it all? DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

it wont really make that much difference I dont think as i get paid on the 20th. OH gets paid weekly and gets hardly anything and his income certainly cant make up any of the shortfall.
Might have to do the CC thing :-( Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

I work for a HA & used to work in Income team years & years ago. We would work out how much residents had to pay by the end of the year (or whatever) & divide it by the number of payments that they would make in that time, so that they could go from a month in arrears to a month in advance or whatver (rent is due on the first here). Maybe you could work out what you can pay, make a proposal up front and explain your reasoning ?
It would have worked with us but.....Building an emergency fund and starting on the mortgage!0 -
Not much fun, but you could go to a temp agency (esp. one dealing with catering type things) and see if you can get work over the weekend or in the evening... Needs must when the devil drives, and all that0

the reason why they want the rent upfront is cos of the arrears though, my housing officer is very clear on that.
Might have to find some immiediate work- thanks della, devil is driving true to say x:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

This is so unfair lynzpower, to do this, if your l/l wants payment like this then you should be given fair warning and allowed to make the change over a few months. We had a similar thing with our sons nursery. They decided they wanted the fees (around £380 per month) in advance instead of arrears which was how we usually paid them (unusual for a nursery I know). They told us last November and that this would come into effect in April so we have been able to graduate the payments up over 5 months paying an extra £70ish a month.
I do hope you are able to come to an arrangement with them. Best wishes.Debtfree JUNE 2008 - Thank you MSE:T0 -
But can they actually do anything as long as you are paying a bit over the odds to get in advance? Check with CAB. I bet they dont think its reasonable & might be able to help.
Good luck.

presumably you have a formal rental agreement/contract....does it say they can do that?0
-
Yes it does. basically they had given me notice of it, but I was in arrears anyway, so it was kinda swallowed into the arrears figure. Now I am out of the arrears, this month is due. for april and on the 16th pof April., Ill pay Mays.
by the 16th of April, Ill be fine, and then it will tick over as planned, but finding this cash for aprils is gonna be a struggle. OH has ( against my wishes really, but needs must) applied for extention on his flexi cahoot loan ( even though we only need 350, theyll only condider increments of a grand ) We shall see. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? So what do you guys reckon then ?
Potentially
a) cahoot loan
b) barclaycard at 14.5 %
c) parents although havent asked them so cant see them agreeing.... Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
