not an easy question, I know, but any advice?

I'm in the process of trying to sort out my credit file having been refused 2 credit cards over the past year.
I discovered that equifax had NO info on me at all - after a couple of calls they found me on the electoral roll and that's now sorted.
They also didn't have records of my credit card (since feb 2004) and loan (since 2000) both with LLoydstsb - but they won't sort this. They just say that this info doesn't come to them.
So now I have a "notice of correction" ready to post to them giving account details of the CC and loan. Is this the right thing to do? I thought that maybe a reason I was getting refused was because there were no details of my credit (I've never defaulted on payments etc)
I've been looking through the forums, trying to find an answer and I appreciate that you probably need a crystal ball to find out exactly why you get refused......
but has anyone been in a similar situation?

you could have been turned down for a lot of reasons, how long have you been in your job?, whats your work record,?how much you earn, ?where you live?,how long you lived there? etc etc etc and electrol lis? and past credit history? etc all firms are different to be honest if it cc your after more trouble than there worth0

getting yourself on equifax is probably enough to tackle the credit card refusals. My OH sorted himself out before Christmas and successfully applied for a BA Amex card. If I were you I wouldn't post a notice of correction with your Lloyds loan and credit card. Some financial products only show on one of the credit reports, some on the others. Not all of my financial products are listed one credit report.
I think the biggest problem you were facing with not getting credit was not having a record per se, now you have one try applying for credit again - you might not necessarily need the details of your loan etc to be successful - and why give them more info than they need?Debt Oct 2005: £32,692.94
Current debt: £14,000.00
Debt free date: June 20080 -
have you checked your record with the other credit agencies? maybe Lloyds use one of the others and not equifax.
i would suggest you dont put a notice of correction as this usually means that it will not pass the automated checks and will require manual intervention which may or maynot be to your advantage.
now you are on the electoral role (and after checking with the other agencies) why not try applying for one more cc with a company you already have a financial relationship i.e. a B Soc where you have a savings account. If you havenot got one then open one although you may want to wait a few months before requesting a cc)0 -
thanks for this advice. I was reading about situations where you can't get credit because you never had it (and therefore proved yourself a "good" customer) - if you look at my equifax file then I guess that what it looks like.
But maybe now that I'm showing up on the electoral roll this may be enough and I should give it a go!0 -
Just wanted to say thanks again for the advice - I just applied for the HSBC 0% card and got it!
I applied over the phone and explained the problems about the electoral roll (my first name is down as "alex" shortened version instead of how it appears on bank statements etc) and this seemed to solve the problem.
Am now a big step closer to paying off those damn debts! Thanks again!0 -
