Hi tomtita and welcome
How much was your original council tax arrears for?
How much of the £200 you are paying is reducing your debt and how much is charges from the baliff?
Ask them for a statement with this info so you can find out if they are charging an allowed amount. And you can find out how long these payments will go on for at the £200 rate.
If your circumstances have not changed (income / expenditure wise) then for them to expect you to double your payment is ridiculous. You can only pay what you can afford, that said council tax is a priorty debt so should come before unsecured debts and luxuries etc.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
First thing i would advise is to keep everything in writing.
You may need proof of what gets agreed.
Continue to pay the £200 that you agreed to (so they know you're not just ignoring the debt). If they are reviewing the account, then that means they need to look to see if your circumstances have changed. If they haven't, then what is this new amount based on? Wishful thinking?
I'd write to them stating that your financial position has not changed and that you will continue to pay the £200pm as previously agreed. If they have any queries or need any additional information, please forward these in writing. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
Dad Gift 6k ¦ Savings & Inv Tst: £2,500
Loan 10k: £0 ¦ Dad 5.5k: £2,270 ¦ LTSB: £0 ¦ RBS: £0 ¦ Virgin £0 ¦ Egg £0
Total Owed: £2,270 (+6k) 11/08/20110
