hi are there any other places that I can get free prints and pick them up from the store? I have done snapfish, asda and tescos. Are there any others?

Re-register using a different email address & you may be able to get more free prints with free collection from Snapfish, Asda & Tesco.

About Asda's offer, could you please confirm that one can order the free prints online & collect for free from instore? G

I've pasted this in Quick Grabbit as well, but thought it might be useful to update this thread - I know that 1p is not free, but this still beats some p&p costs with free prints!

www.pixum.co.uk are offering 4x6 prints for 1p each and no limit on the number ordered -this offer is available between 13/12/06 and 31/01/07 so no problems ordering those xmas piccies.

Postage costs are as follows

1-99 4x6 prints £1.99
100-249 4x6 print £2.99
250-749 4x6 prints £3.99
750-2449 4x6 prints £6.99

I tried out the Pixum offer. The cost actually worked out as 1 Euro per 100 photos plus delivery with the first 20 prints free. Received nearly 1100 6x4 prints for under £15! Extremely happy with the picture quality and will be using them again before the end of January.

Looks like with Pixum you can also make use of their Xmas offer codes (http://www.pixum.co.uk/promotions/xmas_2_2006/) - i.e. at least £1.50 off each order.

But hurry, these voucher codes are only valid until 31/12/06.

I've used Kodak Gallery twice now and both times the quality of the prints have been really bad... e.g. tops of heads chopped off prints when they were fine on the digital image... don't think they check the prints before they send them out !! and when I complained they tried to blame me for their lack of quality control !! to be fair, they have offered refund, but this can only be redeemed in lieu of future orders. Even with the offer of free prints next time I don't think I'll use them again as it's too much hassle getting everything done two or three times !!

I had this problem too - heads getting lobbed off etc. What size photos did you choose? 6" x 4" 's?

If so, this is because the image produced by a digitial camera's is different to that taken by a traditional camera.

A digital camera takes a photograph in the ratio 4:3 (fits a monitor screen better)
whereas a traditional camera takes a photograph in the ratio of 3:2

So the problem here is that 6x4 photos are in the 3:2 ratio suited for photographs taken on traditional cameras. If you print a digital image on a 6x4 print, the photo will be croppped and you risk chopping heads off etc. - most places now let you crop the photo yourself or even allow you to choose a print size slightly different from the convetional 6x4 print.

You can always just choose 7x5 prints and you shouldn't introduce any cropping - although obviously they cost more!

Photobox defaults to 6 x 4.5" prints for my digital prints - I don't know whether it works out the aspect ratio automatically or just assumes that the majority of prints being ordered will be digital and have the 4:3 ratio. It also shows each picture with a frame indicating what portion of the picture will actually be printed, and you choose whether to crop the image or reduce it to fit - important if the aspect ratio of your image doesn't match the aspect ratio of the print size you've chosen. If you crop it (the default option) then you run the risk of losing heads and feet, depedning on how you've framed the shot; if you reduce it then the whole image will be on the print but there will be white bands at the ends.

tipps, I've never tried Kodak Gallery but I suspect they do something similar.
