Nintendo DS Essentials Kit - Withdrawn

Interesting to note 567/8688
Nintendo DS Essentials Kit

Has been withdrawn! Now you can't do the Nintendo DS and essentials kit to get a free game?!

Also, if it has been withdrawn does that mean a safety issue has been identified?

There's no saftey issue that stores have been made aware of, it just looks like the latest batch of the essentials kit came with an American 2-pin plug instead of an in-car charger.

    Doh!

Yep that is the case, all our stock had the American ones.

We are talking about the ones that come in a clear plastic packet. Think it was some other item before in differenet packaging.

God bless Argos distribution for not noticing :D

On a side issue, they wont honour the bundles without the essentials kit which sucks abit, i'm guessing they'll substitute it with something else and get it to stores quite sharp ish as they bundles do sell quite well.

Still a long way from beating the shambles that was the oil filled radiator in the last catalogue.
  • what was the oil radiator one?

415/8154 if i remember right. Some Challenge one.

The welding underneath was knackard and they all kept leaking everywhere. They recalled it, sent it back out and recalled it again, then started re publishing the recall every day or 2 for the !!!! stores who don't do anything. Quite bad actually, we had a couple of Haznots on it, cos of damage to property etc.

Theres still a public recall notice in my store somewhere because of the stupid amount of time you need to leave them up for.
  • haha noice, i was off quite a lot of last catalogue with a bad back, so i dont remember coming across that one.

    Where do I stand?!

Got two DS consoles today, out come the MadCatz "DS Mobile Kit" so I think everything is well and good. Come home and just realized the charger is, as mentioned, the US one!!!

What do I do considering I got them as a 'offer' (i.e. I had to buy these to get Mario Kart for free).

Do you think they will give me a £40.00 refund? :D

Without the in car charger the MadCatz DS kits aren't worth £19.99 IMO.

Johntea, did you get a till bulletin read out to you? If not, I'd give you a 50/50 chance of getting that £40 depending on the mood of the duty manager and the state of the packaging.

If I was the supervisor I'd rather keep your £160 and have two kits to resell rather than lose £200.

    Best,
    SomeGuy.

There was a system glitch which caused all these afformentioned sets to be moved back to stock on Saturday, this shouldnt have happened, but it depends if it gets picked up by the store (We had to manually move ours back over) these are definatly being recalled.

Found out a bit more today, apparently people have being buying convertors for the adapters, which have because of the difference in voltage have fried the game boys.

Its going to totally depend on the store, as they should not have let you purchase the items as they are withdrawn, however, Argos T+C do state about bundle/free items, that if you return one you have to return all of them.

    Depending on how strict the store are you have 2 options;

Take the items back without your reciept and say that you have recieved US plug, they will check the stock and realise they have made a cockup and possibly refund you on a gift card.... if you take in your reciept, they will realise it was a bundle deal, and ask for the game aswell, hence the dont mention it.

Second, if the essentials kit isnt THAT important, wait a few weeks till some proper stock filters back through from distribution then take it into store with your reciept and ask for a replacement.
