Asda Fruit N Grain Bars Discontinued?

Does anyone know if Asda is discontinuing their fruit and grain cereal bars. My local store hasn't had any for weeks and when I went to customer services today to ask when they would be getting them in they said they couldn't tell me as sometimes products are removed from shelves to encourage customers to try other brands.

Since I dislike the others such as Kellogs I have no intention of being "encouraged" to try something else (presumablt more expensive). If they are being discontinued I'll have to find another Asda with a big stock and stockpile them!

if the bar your talking about is an asda own brand which i think it is then surely removing it from the shelf to encourage shoppers to try other brands is a bit daft is it not as surely asda want you to buy they're own brand products

It is their own brand and I would also have thought so however that didn't seem to be the logic from Asda CS - they simply couldn't see why I didn't just buy another brand. The CS said something really stupid like "its an opportunity to try something else".

Maybe it's an opportunity to try another supermarket?

My boyfriend and I loved these so I emailed Asda to ask them what had happened to them a few weeks again, the message I got back was that they were having problems sourcing stock and didn't now how long it would take them to get back in stock could be a week could be a month could be six months. Did say yay or nay to whether they were being discontinued just that they were having problems getting stock.

That's interesting - they are produced for Asda in Canada so that is a resonable explanation. I find the Kellogs Nutrigrain bars far too dry in comparison however strangely if you buy Nutrigrain bars in the US or Canada they are much more moist. Must be differing production methods. Guess I'll just have to start a trawl of all the local Asda stores

or to hope customers forget the original cost and size and don't notice the price increase when they are brought back?

I haven't seen them for ages either - last time i got them they were on a "whoops" i think it was the big pack for approx 88p and not seen them since. Here's hoping the stock comes back soon!

They are back - well they were in Cumbernauld last week - £2.54 for the mixed box of 18 so I bought 3. The checkout operator joked that so many people were buying 3 or 4 boxes that they may have to ration them.

What I did think was odd though was the sell by/best before date on them - it's October 2009 which I didn't think was a very long shelf life. Mine will be eaten long before then so it's not a problem but I did wonder if it was stock they had "found" somewhere in a warehouse?
