I wanna Outdoor Ashtray for patio

I had a new drive and patio towards the end of last summer. With the odd nice day we have had so far the patio has been used. I have no idea about plants etc but have managed to get a nice collection of potted patio flowers/shrubs etc.

It is driving me mad that although none of us smoke in our family the childrens friends (my kids are 16 and 18) smoke and stub their cigs out in my potted plants :mad::mad: despite being told not to do so. I think it is sooooo rude.

So as we are none smokers I do not want to spend a fortune on an outdoor ashtray/bin or get something unsightly like a sand bucket.

So if anyone knows of anything that won't stand out like a sore thumb, I would be very grateful. I could actually do with two because they also stand on the front step and throw the ends on the drive :mad:.

I'm a smoker but I think that your childrens' friends' behaviour is outrageous!!!!!!

I'd be asking them if they thought it would be ok if I went to their houses and stubbed a fag out on their mum's carpet!

My patio/pot plants are my pride and joy and I'd be furious if someone did that to mine. Do your children say anything to them? They should do.

Perhaps you might think about not allowing them to hang out at your house, if they can't respect your property and home?

Why not fill a plant pot with sand and put some decorative stones on top and if you are using it in the dark put a solar light on it so they can see it.

Well after much thought I bought two funeral pots. The one's that go on graves that you put long stem flowers in. They have holes in the top so people can put there cig ends in without them showing on the top (like a sand bucket would).

Thing is that on one side it say's "In Loving Memory" :eek: Just thought it might leave them with an after thought........ not stopped them from using it though.

you can copy my local garden centre tea rooms & patio...

get a terracotta plant pot, turn it upside down onto a terracotta plant saucer. cigs go into the hole at the bottom of plant pot (now at top as upside down!) now cig ends can't be seen, can't blow around in the wind, and are safely covered & easy to carry to bin to empty.

Id make a "smoking area" at the back of your garden and make them stand there whilst having a ciggie. They may soon learn.
