I've had one of these for ages now from Nationwide & have never been able to make head nor tail of it. I am easily confused I have to add.

Any enlightenment here would be welcome.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

I've got a card reader for my internet banking with nationwide. It's a security measure where some of the functions you do online ( such as bill payments) require you to put your debit card into the reader, enter your pin and follow the instructions, you end up with a code in the reader which you enter online and it verifies the transaction.

Having said this I think they vary from bank to bank, a friend has a barclays one and it gives her a new passcode everytime she signs on?

Call your branch if you're not sure.
  • Basically when you make an online payment or something, you have to put your card into the reader which then produces a code which you enter into the co-op site.

The code then validates it is you making the payment

They're actually quite easy to use - just think of them as similar to the chip and pin things in supermarkets, etc. Stick your card in, follow the instructions, type in the number it tells you to and you're done!! Saying, that, not got mine yet - my Nationwide one was really easy though

I'm please the Co-operative aren't making you use the reader just to log in and view account. Barclays do and it annoys the hell out of me.
  • ok thanks, just couldnt work out how it knows how much money i have if it doesnt plug in!

just quite suprised as i didnt know about them, may have to have a little tinkle with it later
