Wrong band Council tax claims and water rates?

Hi, when we moved into our new home 8 years ago, we quickly realised we were paying the wrong band. We challenged it and it was lowered despite a nasty letter from the council, however 3 years later we discovered we were paying higher water rates than everyone else because they were originally based on council tax rates. All we could do was change to a meter which we did and saved money. But does anyone know if there is a way to claim back what we overpaid on our water rates through the councils mistake. We are talking several hundred pounds. I'd also love to let the lady who owned our house for all those years before we moved as she has a right to a considerable claim.

People have raised this point before, and unfortunately water rates are not connected to Council Tax Bands. If anyone is lucky enough to get their Council Tax reduced by moving to a different band, they are entitled to a Council Tax refund but not a Water refund.

Hi we challenged our local council last year after watching martin on GMTV. We were banded a D but just phoned the council and after approx 3 months our house was banded a C. We got a refund but because we rent the council contacted our landlady and she got over £900 back. The house was originally owned by here mother and was inherited, so the refund was back dated to 1992 I think.
We also got a nice cash christmas present off our landlady to thank you.:beer:

We had a problem when the council re banded.

We live in a row of identical houses, ours, and the one next door was placed in a higher bracket than the rest of the row.

We appealed, won, and got a refund and then found out that due to that we were paying higher water rates than the rest.

Appealed, but they claimed that rateable value had nothing to do with rateable value.

When pressed they refused to say how the rate was calculated.

Went on a meter and are now about £200 a year better off.
