guess its in the lap of the gods lol, mortgage minefield at the moment
  • lol 4 days? let me guess you got lied to by an "over keen" broker?
i applied to the scabby and after 5 weeks they threw it out. oddly enough they had all the info on day 1 so i think there are some dubious practices going on at scabby.

One thing stands out about Abbey.

Across the product range they seem to have just about the most awful service of any major brand operating in the UK.

Some companies can be inconsistent, but Abbey aren't. They are consistently awful.

I avoid them now. It was always going to be problematic a Spannish Bank taking over Abbey, A & L and Bradford and Bingley and trying to transfer several service centres into 2 giant centres.

I find it odd that some brokers find the Abbey ok. Even the online application is rubbish compared to that of C & G or N Rock. Simple things like choosing from the online product options can be hellish. Halifax are terrible in this regard too.

Well from first contacting my broker to getting a mortgage offer from Abbey it has taken just over 2 weeks, so I can't complain.

I'm incredibly happy with the broker I've used, excellent communication right from the start and kept me informed at every stage. My broker ensured I had all of the right information before I submitted my application.

We had an offer in on a Repo which fell through but we had given Abbey the details of it on our application and they even tried to book the survey on the property too.

Each application is different though and we already have a commercial mortgage with Abbey so perhaps that's why it was so quick.

Good luck with your application :)

its been accepted today,,finally after just over 3wks...in all fairness the morgage lass in the bank was pretty good at keeping me updated even if it was just to say its not done yet, still waiting from the under writters...but we shall see how long it takes for the evaluation now

yep, it took one month exactly to get me personally approved for the mortgage (found out this week I am approved) but now it has to have the survey, god knows how long that will take and as the house is old and has been underpinned I am worried that could take another month to sort out. They kept coming back to us with really silly queries, the most recent was that they wanted to know if we were related to the vendor?!?!? No explanation about why. Every time our broker phoned to find out why the process was taking so long she was told that they have a back log and her impression is that there are fewer lenders than before and that Abbey had a good deal so they were just swamped.
