BLOGS (has anybody done this)

I've just hear about how you can set up a blogs site with google and if you get enough traffic to your site, they ask you to put adverts on the site and pay you. Is this right or a type of internet scam.

Fluer, not sure exactly what you've read or been told, but I guess the above scenario is possible. Any site or blog that has a high amount of traffic (were talking hundreds of thousands here, so your blog would have to be very popular) would be of interest to advertisers. Google offer a service called Ad-sense, which allows you to place targeted adverts on your webpage/bog (it mines your site/blog for keywords and then uses those words to decide what ads to place on your page). Then everytime someone clicks one of the ads, you get a small amount of money (generally a few pence) for each click.

https://www.livejournal.com will give you a blog for free and you don't have to pay for many features. You can optionally upgrade but it's not necessary for most users. I don't know about making money though, surely people would want to read your blog because they want to read about you and not be sold to??

I've got a blog with blogger.com, which was free to set up, and I'm sure a while ago I remember reading an article on the site saying that you could set up an account with google adsense (I think) and so that the ads displayed alongside your blog and get the money from any referrals. I don't think it was a con, but equally I wouldn't have expected to get huge amounts of cash from it. (I've got a feeling that you aren't allowed to reveal your earnings from adsense.)

It's not a con, they will pay for the traffic through the ads on your site. But the thing is, your site will have to a fairly interesting one to have a lot of traffic and you'll have to be reasonably tech-savvy to ensure you hit the top of the search results to get the traffic in the first place. (involves tweaking the meta-data on your site, things like that)

Just setting up a personal page that nobody can find isn't going to generate any traffic at all!

Oh, and if you are interested in this sort of thing, you could always have a look at Ciao and Dooyoo, where you can read and write consumer reviews. It isn't big money (probably less than a pound per review especially when you start) but I know a lot of people who have done it and they do pay (although when you hit their minimum pay out levels and not always very quickly, so you won't get rich quick).
