I think they're totally entitled to feel ripped off!! The exact same offer, exact same ships, exact same staff costs but the Euro price is far cheaper than the sterling price. Same story as the airlines who charge more to fly out of the UK than they do other countries. Or charge different prices for the same flight depending on where the person who books the tickets lives - see stories like this all the time.

Thanked you by mistake but thanks for replying anyway. Still think it's a bit ludicrous to be complaining bitterly when you got a real bargain. Anyone who didn't book a couple of weeks ago would be looking at paying £300 plus for the same crossing this summer at the company's standard rates. It's a fact of life that promotions change all the time - sometimes you buy at the best possible moment, sometimes not. You've just got to make it a rule not to pay more than you think a product is worth to you and this is surely particularly true for travel products where prices are always very fluid.

If I felt slapped in the face every time tescos (or similar) sold something on bogof that I'd previously bought with no offer on it I'd be in a state of constant indignation.

Anyway it seems Norse Merchant won't be allowing this offer to be booked in reverse so you need not feel slapped after all.

Obviously don't know how familiar you are with Eire, but where my family live virtually everything is more expensive than in the UK (petrol is a notable exception) so if you are travelling better be prepared for "rip off" Ireland!

I know where you're coming from and I agree totally when we're talking about going to Tesco today and then going tomorrow and finding something cheaper. The difference here though is that there is a nationality/currency difference - Tesco don't offer a packet of crisps on the shelf priced in pounds and euros but essentially this is what Norse are doing but the price in pounds and euros is miles apart! It's a bit like being in Dixons and the salesman saying 'the price for this groovy new DVD player is £75 if you're British (i.e travelling from Birkenhead) but if you're Irish (or travelling from Dublin) the price is only £50'

I'm happy that I got a good price compared to brochure price - just think it's a little off to be offering the same service to those travelling out of Dublin on the same ships at a much lower price.

Cheers for the 'thanks' anyway! ;) And I fully intend to fill my tank up the moment I set foot on the emerald isle.

    I take your point.

Can't resist asking if you've ever shopped in tescos in Ireland though?

The prices will have you reeling. I think the Irish deserve the odd bargain that we miss out on now and again in return.

(Dunnes is much cheaper if you're not familiar with Irish supermarkets)

The conclusion of the offer last weekend was they would not offer it in reverse but did do a £99 return for the dates we wanted. We were happy but it wasn't the best offer they did!

Haven't been self-catering in Ireland for quite a few years so thanks for the heads-up. Will probably do a shop over here and take it with us if there's room in the car and just get refrigerated stuff over there. Will look up Dunnes to see where they are in relation to where we're staying. Anyone know if Yell etc have an Irish equivalent online?

Sounds as if you got the same offer that they offered the previous weekend - we took the overnight version so it cost a little more but still a great deal (especially compared to an Isle of Man crossing we also looked at!!)
