Is it all a bit premature now as HP are looking to ditch computer / hardware manufacturing and concentrate on software.

I did this about two years ago. I had to buy my own fax cable, but that was no great hardship, as I ended up with a great printer. I've also tested software for them and got paid for that, think it was £50. It was photo software and it just involved performing various tasks related to the software functions.0
