My thoughts exactly, if you are happy to stay on for 10 hours knowing you wont get paid why are you saying you are not happy that you are not getting NMW?

Well if it's better than watching Countdown, carry on regardless.

However, If you don't get home in time for Hollyoaks, leave now.

what kind of retail place is this if you have no contract or don't have to sign in? you need to protect yourself, retailers are getting sly these days, make sure you write down all the hours you work because if they screw up your pay you wil have no evidence

I'd have a word with manager regarding unpaid overtime. You don't need to be confrontational, just point out that you seem to be working 50 hours rather than the contracted 40 without any extra pay. You can point out that you don't mind doing overtime as you love the job so much. You could also ask about getting payslips showing hours and rate so that there's no confusion.

It may seem better to be at work than watching Countdown but surely it would be even better if you were getting paid for it. :D

I'm asked to come in an hour early before the shop opens, it's treated as being late to arrive 10 minutes after 8am, though i don't official start getting paid til 9am. Why do I need to be unhappy before claiming minimum wage? I'd rather be happy with my job and get paid a fair wage, the two aren't mutually exclusive! ;)

I have a contract, it doesn't state my hourly rate, it just states my salary (which when broken down, doesn't meet the demands of the minimum wage system based onthe hours I work, which is a basic right of all UK citizens)

Yes I like the suggestion to make the loving the work the main talking point, i think I'll raise this issue in a couple of weeks with my manager, until then I'll continue to try to make a good first impression :)
