Hi Guys
Dont know if this is the right place to post this.
I need some help. My colleague at work is in a sticky wicket. And I dont know what to advise him to do.
He moved to Edinburgh 4 years ago and was flat sharing with someone, the 'flatmate' moved out and moved to a new property, took out the rental agreement in my colleagues name. And run up non payment of council tax for 2 years, which is with sherriffs officers and is approx £4k.
He has tried to keep up payment, as he felt he couldnt do anything else. Surely he should go to the police as my colleague cannot track this guy down??
Any other advice, he has just told me about this. He has said his parents took it up with the council etc and they are not interested as the debt is with sherriffs officers. And he is now struggling to pay the debt. I think he is insane for trying to keep up payment.
Please advise???

Are you sure he's telling you the whole story? Was he paying council tax to Edinburgh from another address over those two years?0

I am going to get him to log on this pm and get him to state the whole facts, I am only detailing a bit of it obviously.
Thanks for your help.

have i read this right, your friends flatmate moved out and took another flat in your friends name?, how did his flatmate get a flat in someone elses name? would he not need id etc, i would say that was fraud and your friend should follow this avenue with the police0

i feel sorry for people who are taken advantage of, this is a cruel harsh world out there and you need to have your wits about you. an old lady who has one arm, comes into our shop every day, and this particular day she asked for help with the cash machine to get some money out as she needed 20 pound for the window cleaner (she lives in a old persons council bungalow only has 5 windows) we joked , how many weeks do you owe joyce, she said just this week!!! that was what this scumbag was charging her every week for god knows how long, we phoned her son straight away and he came to wait for the window cleaner. the police were phoned and it turned out he did this with a lot of old people, he was making 200 pounds a week just from 10 old folks bungalows!!0
