Abandoned hope for all ye FTBs

I don't think FTB's should abandon hope. Just had a look at Property Bee, absolutely staggered to see how many properties are now sub 100k. A couple of years ago there was nothing, now there are too many to bother browsing through. Also interesting to see the numbers that are still dropping, price reductions this month, last month, etc.
As ISTL says - "check your area". I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
At this rate the thread title in a few months will be "Bloody FTB's, they've never had it so good".0 -

What does that mean

What's the employment situation like in your area ? What's the average wage for the majority?
Prices are falling round here. But wages are too. Pay cuts, pay freezes, no overtime, reduced hours. There is a fundamental shift in some sectors of industry. Possibly we are now getting a reaction to the cheaper labour available in Eastern Europe. To compete labour costs are come down.0 -
Very good points. I was still thinking in terms of full employment, wages, etc. I know, I know - but it's Bank holiday and I don't engage my brain unless I'm being paid for it.Thrugelmir wrote: »What's the employment situation like in your area ? What's the average wage for the majority?

I think it means Graham is tired of the wind up merchant known as Pickles. It doesn't normally take this long.
OK, what do you mean

God, how nauseatingly bitter you are.In the `old` days we saved and saved hard for a deposit ie we did without other things . Different times and different mentality. Nothing was handed to us on a plate and many of us did two jobs to get the mortgage deposit together. It can be done these days too but takes sacrifice and commitment
I think you'll find FTBs 'nowadays' are just as committed to saving, working hard, and going without certain luxuries, to be able to build up a deposit.
Harking back to the 'god old days' when everything was allegedly better has been a feature of every generation for the last 500 years. Get off the cliche train.0 -

As a nation we are heavily indebted on mortgages and credit cards. Our consumer debt as a ratio of savings is 150%. Things weren't better in the "good old days". But at least we couldn't end up in the mess we are now in.0
