ASDA Returns Policy for DVD Recorder.

Hello,

I have a DVD recorder that has just gone wrong, and the reciept shows I bought it on 17th March 05.

Assuming it only has a 1 year warantee, am I stuffed or will ASDA show some leniancy ?

Chris

I understand that any retailer is responsible for a 'reasonable period of time' regardless of 'whatever' 12mnth guarantee.

A product should be fit for it's purpose and last a resonable period of time....

obviously 12 mnths for a DVD is NOT (should last a good few years)

However, depending on how long you have had it, there is an element of use you have had, so there may not be a FULL refund.....

I'm sure you could 'plea' with them as it is only just over theso called 12mnth guarantee.

I'm sure someone will come along and clarify any bits i've missed or said wrong..
    Don't forget to THANK ME !! :D

I might be wrong on this but..... I think a product has to be durable as was already posted and clearly the dvd recorder has not proven durable.

You might have to be firm with the shop but they should organise something for you.

I had a freeview box that went back to sainsburys after the years guarantee ran out (about 18 months I think) and a polite but firm approach yielded my money back.
  • Have a look at Trading Standards it might be worthwhile printing the relevant bits. Shops are more likely to listen to you if it's obvious you know the law and can back it up
  • if you have a problem are they still selling exactly the same model in store !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    i'm not saying any more

just wondering..... what is your model......
if im not wrong then you should have a 3 year gurantee on that work for asda...... they only recently changed it...... and cough cough cough......
i have a slight suspicion that no receipt or loads of tea stains.....
back to the point they only just recently changed to the one year guarantee gimmick the only downer for you is that we constantly go through a change of dvd modles...... and dont swap from the box.... sometimes the CS people may do a modle check and see if the model returned has the same serial number as printed onto the box....
    but give it a go

  • My brother took back a DVD player 2 years after buying it at ASDA.. he use to work there and knows the general policy is to keep people happy.. if you've got a broken DVD recorder I expect they'd take it back without too much hassle

Asda used to have a 3 year guarantee on electrical products, but that's now gone down to 2 years - either way, you should be able to get a refund or replacement with no hassle.
