cleaning tip please

Anyone got any tips on cleaning a hob, i know i cant use water on the plate bits and i am scared of causing any damage but some new hob plate bits are looking very old already. Very concerned about causing more harm than good. thanks in advance!

What kind of hob is it?

im not sure of the proper name for it. so sorry. its not a glass one, its four metal raised "placed" black coloured, red circle in the middle....my hob ignorance has finally be revealed (the shame!) . xxxxxx

There might be manufacurers instructions.

It is electric..no brand name or instructions. i didnt get it. it was installed by my landlord. sorry for being so useless!

Hi siobhan,

It's best not to use a lot of water on the plates but you can use what I call a pot scrub (sponge one side, rougher on the other side) on them dampened with a little water and washing up liquid. Rinse well and make sure the plates are completely dry before using. For the rest of the hob top, spray a mix of stardrops and hot water, leave to soak for about 10 minutes then a quick scrub and rinse down should work.

you are life savers...i didnt want to break anything (esp. as im moving in a month) but the neat freak in me cant cope with it looking messy. Landlord left no information...we got it fitted a couple of month ago after it broke on the friday of a bank holiday weekend (you can imagine the panic-was so relieved the electrician turned up on a sunday i didnt even think about intstructions) OH doesnt think and if i ask him to clean he essentially throws hot water on everything, he is dangerous! will try tips tommorow and let you know how it works out
