When do the CSA get involved?

Do they only get involved if the other parent contacts them? Or if the parent with custody of the child claims certain types of benefits?

Many thanks

Either parent can open a case.

It is no longer the case that a person on certain benefits has to claim CSA - but they still have to declare their money to the benefits agency.

    Many thanks for the replies.

It's good to know they don't get involved if you are claiming benefits; my eldest DD's father has always paid maintenance, and myself and my DH were to have to claim any benefits I would feel really awful if my ex and his wife were pursued by the CSA. We all have a good relationship and I wouldn't want the CSA to wreck that.

    Thanks

If you claim certain benefits you need to declare the maintenance - for some, such as housing benefits and tax credits it makes no difference to the amount paid, but for others like income support they will reduce your benefit (by anything you receive over £20 per week)

If he is on benefits generally the CSA only take £5 per week. Your choice.
