rotten egg

I have been sorting out my finances since my last post, I’ve been reading the posts here daily, but never seem to be able to post a reply before others have :o . Here’s my update

I have reduced my debts and made my last payment on my loan today :j . I was feeling good about my finances as I thought they were finally getting under control. I transferred £3,800 onto a 1.9% with Egg and set up a direct debit to ensure the payments (above the minimum) were made BEFORE the due date. The payment was due to come out on 8/3/06. I checked on line on 8/3/06 to make sure the payment had gone out; it hadn’t so I ran Egg who told me that it would come out in a few days. So, I thought well that’s all right then. I then received an email and written confirmation from Egg last week that “unfortunately they were unable to collect the DD, and would collect it in 10 working days from 8/3/06 but I would not incur charges as a result of this”. So I thought, well that’s fine, the money is in the account…. BUT

I got a call this evening from Egg to say I was in arrears!!. I was not pleased to say the least. They blamed my bank, but my bank said that Egg had not set up the DD in time. I asked them for written confirmation that this would not show up as a late payment on my credit report as I have managed to make sure that all my accounts show that I have been making payments on time and no late payment!

I have fired off an email to Egg telling them what I thought about them (polite and constructive  ) and requested they provide written confirmation that this will not show up as a late payment on my credit report.

They are not getting away with this incompetence! I need my credit report to show I make my payments, as I want to re-mortgage within the next few weeks. Has this happened to you? And was it sorted out without it affecting your credit rating?

I feel so annoyed, but will have to now keep on Egg’s case because of their tardiness

  • You could always send a cheque for this month's payment and hopefully the direct debit will have been set up correctly by next month.

  • Whwn I first started trying to get out of debt, I cancelled ALL dd to all credit cards, and on one day a month I looged onto internet banking and made all the payments myself, just by typing the cc number in/looking up the company. It gave me a sense of control (where there was none) and I KNEW all the payments would get to where they were meant to be. Things like the above used to happen to me all the time. It's all !!!!!!.

This happened to me with egg when i had to cancel a card that had been stolen in the post. Then sent me a new one but couldn't 'transfer the DD'. (yeah right whatever). They faffed around for ages getting new forms and stuff. It's not affected my credit reference. Got the same standard letter as you about not being able to collect DD but would try again. Remember getting furious with my bank cos i had the moeny in the account and the daft guy from egg said that that the bank refused it. I think they are just really slow with settin up DD's.

No constructive advice just to let you know your not the only one this has happened too. I suggest you get on the phone to egg again and make a manual payment if you haven't already. That's what i did i paid by switch and until they finally sorted it out.

thanks for the replies. I'll get back on the phone with Egg and insist they take the payment! Hope they'll record that I was insisting they took a payment
