The vehicle's chassis number can be used to determine the exact date of manufacture. Owners Clubs often have details of how the chassis number relates to date of manufacture.
Assuming it's a VW camper, the VW Type 2 owners club has details of chassis numbers herePeople are more important than things0 -
you could try the d.v.l.a website, as it tells you all the details of a vehicle when you submit the registrationspanky xx

I seem to recall there are several threads on volkszone forums on this matter. They are very friendly over there and will answer any other questions you may have!
Have you just bought it? I've got a '74 Type 2 and a '63 Type 3 and the back end of a Type 2 that has been made into a trailer!

Can't you SORN (so you don't have to pay the tax) it and keep it off the road until you can afford to get the work done?0

If it is over 25 years old then it is tax exempt.Middlers0

Unfortunately that is not the case (my camper is 31 years old and we still have to pay tax) - the 25 year exemption ruling was replaced by a ruling that states that vehicles constructed before 1st Jan 1973 ONLY are exempt from Vehicle Excise Duty.0 -
