I cant decide Plasma/LCD or Projector

Whats best a 40/50" plasma on the wall or a (up to 10 foot image) projected onto a screen? I would mainly use for watching DVDs, Xbox 360 and some graphic design/web work, I have a sony for normal telly.
A friend has a projector with screen hidden behind curtain pelmet and projected mounted on a bookcase, so very discreet when not in use.
I realise that there is bulb life and cost to consider, but in comparison, I have access to a 50" Plasma at work which has a number of dead pixels, and its only 18 months old, and has only been used for 2 hrs a week max. So have some bad experience with them.
Suggestions and MSEs experience gratefully recieved

I have a 10 foot wide DLP PJ in the loft and a 44"DLP Tv downstairs, I watch all my dvds and play on my PS2 on the PJ, I only use the Tv for normal Tv veiwing. If you go for a 40/50" Tv I would stay away from plasma and go for a good LCD as they last longer and when the LCD does go its usually the backlight thats gone, which you can replace. With plasma, once its gone, its gone. If you have the room I would go for a PJ. You can get a good one for about £500/700. Or you can go mad and spend about £7000.
Have a look on https://www.avforums.com, good site for av info.
