London and Country AGAIN!

Have asked for 3 callbacks from L&C and left a named contact a message - still no response. Haven't even had a conversation with anyone from L&C yet, and have already decided not to bother using them. I don't mind paying for good, fair, sound advice - anyone got any good feedback on other companies?

Ask around friends and family if they have use, and are obviously happy with, a whole of market mortgage broker, who ideally, owns the company, therefore having the greatest to gain from providing a great service. You need to decide also if you want to work face to face, or on the telephone.

Below is not for personal gain - board moderator please remove if you feel it appropriate

If not-I have a couple of contacts in SE London if you want a purely personal recommendation, but they do make a charge, in addition to taking lender commission. PM me if this would help

I am a fee charging WoM Mortgage broker.
I now no longer give information and opinion within the Mortgage boards, because a number of posters who, having approached me professionally, agreed my fee-which has been been made very clear at the outset, taken my advice (normally cancelling a [home visit] meeting at short notice) have then approached one of the fee-free brokers on here to arrange the very same deal I have advised.
Whilst I totally concur with the ethos of "money saving"- abusing the goodwill of a professional who provides a quality service is taking it too far!
  • Again, apologies that you had problem contacting anyone here - it's really not good enough. We are in the process of increasing our advisory force by over 15% - but as I'm sure you can appreciate it takes a while to get them trained.

I'll echo what stanmoresaver says - there are some excellent brokers out there - ask friends or family if they know of any one in your local area.

The important questions to ask a broker are:

"are you regulated?" - I'd be surprised if anyone wasn't, but it's better safe than sorry
"are you whole of market?" - they should say "yes", - even if they do you should ask them if they have access to all the deals available (bizarrely, you can be whole of market even if you can't use lots of different lenders
"Do you charge a fee" - Much debate about that here, which I wont get in to - if the broker does charge a fee make sure you agree it up front - Many brokers (but not all) will be open to a bit of haggling on fees - so it's always worth a go. Once you know what the fee is, it is up to you to decide if you wish to pay it, or find a fee free route.

Again - many apologies to you, and to anyone else who has not had the service they expect from L&C - we're doing everything we can to rectify it. If I can help anyone who is struggling to contact us - then please don't hesitate to pm me.

I think the callback thing is broken! Has never worked on the few occasions (different days) I have tried it.

One day I just phoned them when they didnt get back to me. In straight away talking to a very helpfull guy!

Perhaps its firefox browser it doesnt like?
  • As far as I can see the call back thing is working - it's just that you get added to a very long list of people to call (at the moment we are taking about 1 day to make a contact attempt).

Of course, some people are not available when we try to call them, and we end up not ever being able to speak to them - which is as frustrating for me as I'm sure it is for the client!

If you are struggling to speak to someone here, then I suggest calling any of our publicised numbers (the freephone ones will work best) like kne has done.

If you are still having difficulties the I pop in here a couple of times a day - so you're welcome to leave me a message (This is mainly for existing customers - I don't want to use this medium to acquire new business - it wouldn't be fair on the many other excellent brokers who post here.)

My experience with L&C was actually good one. Very good matter and efficient. The deal they got me was not as good as I would expect but it all down to he special situation and type of mortgage I want. Suggested you ask for Steve Clapp. At the end of the day, you are dealing with people but not the company, epecially in service sector.

    Hope this helps.

On the contrast, you would not believe this because I also asked charcol for help, guess what, 7 days passed, I even have not got anything yet? For a mortgage???!!

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.
