Brick Paver cleaning

Anyone had or know of someone that has had a brick paved driveway cleaned and restored?
How did it turn out and who did it?

  • All I know is that you shouldn't let anyone with a power washer near them! It washes all the sand out, and then they sink!

We did our own block paving with a power washer and blasted the weeds/dirt out consequently some jointing and was lost so we made sure afterwards we got some jointed sand to redo in, this was about a month ago. Odd weed has returned so we go out with weed killer every few days.

It looks a lot better but took a couple of days in all to do. But cost was low, about £3 for bag of fine kiln dried sand and water (we are on meter)

If you keep on top of it though with regularly cleaning it should get as bad from then on.

Show me a block paved driveway with weeds and I'll show you a lazy owner

That was the saying of the man who did our block paving several years ago (ours has weeds in)

There will always be weed grow in the sand between the pavers, but its usually only seed which have germinated by passing birds, etc. This can be removed by weed killer or pressure washing. Don't worry about the pressure washer removing the sand between the pavers, its only superficial sand and serves no purpose other than keeping the pavers separated. Just make sure you have some extra fine fine sand to fill in.

If you have a weed which roots come from below the pavers, you have a bigger problem and need to lift the pavers, spray it with weed killer and lay down a weed membrane.
