Stenaline price increase

Options
Every year DH has to hire a short wheel base transit van to take DD1 to and from university in Newcastle upon Tyne. Not a problem normally until he rang up yesterday to book the ferry crossing and discovered that the price had increased dramatically from last September because now Stena have categorised all transit vans as being commercial vehicles only with no discount for private use. The booking agent confirmed that the majority of van bookings at this time of year are for the collection of students so Stena must be making a tidy profit at students parents expense.

What if you hired an estate car / 7 seater - would that hold enough ?? it might work out cheaper ??

Unfortunately we already have an estate car but she has so much stuff with her that the car can't take it even with the back seats folded down :o

Could you hire a minibus and see if that makes a price difference? My dad used to use a minibus he could get from work to take my sister across and she had everything but the kitchen sink to bring home!

Maybe this is the year that DD learns to travel light, my DD could get all her stuff into a Citroen AX, have you checked the other ferry companies and routes to see if they are all the same? Check Quidco for deals etc, hope you get something sorted.

I can't convince myself that Tescos cards are good for me. What is it, 4p back on every £1?

I'm not a loyal customer, i'm not loyal to any supermarket. I pick the best bargains from Lidls, sainsburys and Tescos and go shop. If Asda was near me I would use them as well.

I have calculated that I would need 15-20p from every £1 from Tescos to even think about joining their clubcard deal. the savings I make from other supermarkets saves me the bother in being locked into a club-saver deal.
