As you can see from my list of debts I owe for council tax, and its quite alot of money but as of yet has not gone to the baliffs, I am keepng in touch with them on a weekly basis and as soon as I start to get paid so will they.0

From my experience, if you keep them up-to-date with your situation, and keep to promises made, then you shouldn't have a problem...WARNING!Alcohol can make you think you are more interesting and attractive than you actually are.....0

it is rather odd that some councills go straight to baliffs as it is not a cost effective method ,i suppose it is down to a poor councill,0

Unfortunatley in my experience the council is a law to it's self...there is no standard way of doing things. I had trouble paying my council tax a couple of years ago when moving out of the benefits trap into earning, I made several calls to try and sort everything out (5 in total) each one resulted in me reduced to tears and the people I spoke to each telling me a different thing. I finally got through to a human being who was so nice and we got everything sorted out within an hour. Prior to this I had been told that jail was a possibility..pay up, baliffs will come and take everything...pay up etc. It was disgusting.
The following year it became apparent that my account had been overpaid, as I was really short of cash I requested a refund rather than the amount being put towards the following years bill. Over 2 months they made me wait for it, I was continually fobbed off over the course of 12 phone calls, I also sent letters. It was only resolved when I went to the council offices and said I was staying until they gave me back my money........they managed to do that inside of half an hour!!!
I am appalled that should one of us minions genuinely have trouble paying they come out with the evil carp above......yet they owed me money and it took the action above to get it back....like I said...a law unto themselves!! :mad:Debt free = December 2010...as of March 2006 it is now January 2010..... as of December 2008 it is now December 2009 :j hopefully sooner!!:jDEBT FREE:j January 2012, took longer but I got there, all by myself, through sheer hard work and pride!0
