Selling stuff to clear debt

I've made a decision today that as I'm not having any joy with sorting out extra work to bring in more dough to pay off my debt sooner, I'm going to have to sell some more of my bits and bobs.
I've already sold a few things and up and until today, thought I had nothing else I could put on ebay. But I've decided that there are things like CDs, videos and books that I could easily get shot off and make some money from. It is fair enough thinking, oh I don't want to part with that, but the important thing for me at the moment is to get shot of my debt as soon as possible and afterall it is my fault I owe money on a credit card, so I think it is about time I start making proper sacrifices.
So there you go, the minimalist life for me!!!!

You won't regret it Miffi! I used to be an impossible hoarder, I kept EVERYTHING. And then I got offered a job in the UK (I'm not from the UK originally!) so I had to pack up my entire life and ship it overseas. That really makes you think about what you need and what you don't
So I sold off most of my stuff and I haven't looked back. Now I love not having stuff, most of it was just clutter anyway. And it's changed my spending habits too, I don't buy nearly as much 'stuff' anymore. It's all good!0 -
Think I need to do a bit of this too Miffy. Think I need to sell one of my Macs (have a G5 and a notebook) but it is hard, I love my Macs!
It is suprising how much 'stuff' you have when you look. I have been putting things together for a boot fair and it's verging on the ridiculous. Can see where my money goes now, so am going to take a photo of the pile to remind myself it is just junk in the end!0 -
Go for it. If it works out too costly (with fees & p&p) to sell on ebay then save it for a car boot. The money soon adds up and you'll be amazed as to what some people will buy!!
Download "Turbo Lister" with ebay - its fab & makes listing the items slightly easier!!
As climb girl says - it really makes you think when you have to pack up and move to the other side of the world (even though I havent done it yet), but I am going to have to be so ruthless & I definately wont be buying anything else in the meantime - there's no point!!

I've decided that 'things' aren't really that important, clearing my £3k debt, being able to save properly and sleep at night is far more important, so I am going to head forth into the murky world of ebay with my goodies. Hope they do sell and sell for a reasonable amount.
I will update you on my progress and hopefully will be able to report that I've knocked more off my debt. Keep all your bits crossed for me though!!0 -
Hi Miffi,
if you are concerned about selling on ebay, and have some individual items, then why not try an advert in your local paper, or Loot? You can usually do this online, and the ads are free. There are several advantages, no fees, no postage, and the buyer will collect!
Good luck.It is never too late to become what you were always intended to be0 -
I sell everything we havn't used for 10 minutes on ebay and it's one of the main ways I cleared my debt. I'd still be up to my neck in it if it werent for ebay!!2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

https://www.greenmetropolis.com can be better for selling books. They sell for £3.75, you get £3 of which you pay 2nd class postage therfore you end up with just over £2 profit.
No need to take photos or write descriptions, just enter the ISBN number and the site does the rest.
Books stay on there till they sell or till you remove them. If they don't sell it doesn't cost you a penny.Nevermind the dog, beware of the kids!0 -
Hi, Im new on here!
I have sold quite a few bits and pieces on Ebay, it's great if you are selling things people really want as they will pay over the odds sometimes. I always do a search on the item I am selling to see how popular it is first and therefore whether it's worth all the hassle and listing fees etc....
Good Luck, hope it goes well for you!0 -
its a 10p listing day tomorrow for buy it now items...0

Hi
I was an avid eBayer in November - it's amazing what I found to sell - from an Anne Summers bra and knicker set (brand new and tagged) to son's used, but exc. condition dressing gown. After the eBay fees, I came out with £117 in one month!
I'm moving onto car booting again this Spring - last time I made £85. I've got a few larger items (eg. computer desk in exc. condition) so will take a photo and make a little board with a notice on for those.
My motivation - yes to clear the cc's, but also to get my car in the garage! There are bucketfuls of my sons old toys to sell! Plus my car insurance will be cheaper than 'left on private drive'!
Good luck
AliBack on the DFW Wagon:
CC - £3,300 on 0% til 04/2020
CC - £4,500 on 0% til 02/2019
Loan - £12,063.84 as at 4/1/180
