State pension won't be affected but other allowances might be, if they get them

This is one of those misconceptions that are still around. I believe there used to be some such arrangement years ago, but it hasn't applied for a long time now. After all, in hospital or not, the household bills still have to be paid! And most people find it costs money when someone is in hospital. I used to take my DH chopped up fruit from the supermarket because his mouth got so dry - what with travel and everything, it cost a fortune.

State retirement pension and any pension credit will not be affected. If he's on Attendance Allowance that gets stopped after 4 weeks because it's meant to pay for care, which, in hospital, he's getting.

It used to say in the back of Pension Books that your pension stopped after 4 weeks in hospital. Years after they changed the rules, nobody thought to change the pension books. I don't know if it still says this, as I saw it in my mother's Pension Book, and she doesn't have one any more as it's paid into the bank.

Pension books went out something like 5 years ago - these days it's bank account, PO card account (a sort of electronic pension book) or giro.
