We still have 17 years left to run on our mortgage. (I wish this site had been around when I first got a mortgage) However, apart from the mortgage we are debt free and we are now working hard at overpaying and hope to bring that date forward as much as possible.
With regards to what to do when you are mortgage free, why not save for a holiday home somewhere hot and sunny, or even somewhere in Britain? Just an idea, its a bit too far away for OH and I to think about at the minute, but thats what we'd do.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Next is to get a holiday house in France or Italy for holiday. Will have a real wood fire... Until then, we aim to secure our flat in the UK by becoming mortgage free.

Once mine is paid for I intend to travel, that way I will only need mine for a base and not be tempted to finance estate agents and solicitors for ever more.

    firstly what a great thread!

secondly i think the idea of freeing yourself from the commitment of a mortgage to allow you to travel is a fabulous idea and i am sure a very motivating ambition.good luck!
