OMG where on earth did this come from.
This morning I felt great and good take on the world. Had three pound in my purse and was determined not to spend it at lunchtime. But all I could smell was the bakers and fish and chips - and now I feel really down (I didn't spend by the way)
My cheese salad sandwich from home was boring - and I'm still hungry.
Why?

hi
just thought i would offer a few words to keep you going
my wife and i have been in the same situation, remember the occasional treat will do no major damage, just make sure it is only an occasional treat.have you tried a spreadsheet/chart with your debts on it ,you simply cross of the amounts as you reduce debts.
remember not to become a total slave to money !!
life is for living after all£2.00 club = 38.00

I haven't done a proper budget yet, I've just been trying not to spend more than the tenner I put in my purse each Sunday (only been a week and a bit) Changed my bank account and phone and got an interest free loan from my dad to pay egg card (which I haven't paid yet) perhaps I should write out a budget now that all my bills (like council tax have gone up)
At the minute I'm feeling a bit frightened of spending anything and then feel really scared and guilty if I do0 -
you could try the budget planner on this site which I have used and found very helpful. It sounds as though you are really determined so stick with it, good luck.Debt free = December 2010...as of March 2006 it is now January 2010..... as of December 2008 it is now December 2009 :j hopefully sooner!!:jDEBT FREE:j January 2012, took longer but I got there, all by myself, through sheer hard work and pride!0

I totally agree with E@J ... you need to have the occasional treat to keep you going but it feels ok to have them if you have planned for them. I'm fairly new to this DFW site but I love the challenge of seeing my debt go down and my debt free date come nearer if possible but I know at the outside it will be Dec 2009. Any earlier I clear the debt will be a bonus!
I have found the spending diary advice brilliant and I work on a monthly basis not a weekly one. I put £300 in the pot at the begining of the month, give hubby £50 in case he picks up shopping etc and we live on that money, knowing it's budgeted for. Slowly over the month it gets spent but if we want fish and chips we know we can have it! as long as it's out of our £300 overall.
You're doing really well by setting yourself a budget in the first place so don't feel down about not buying things you want and definately don't feel guilty when you spend small amounts. Once you've done your budget and have in effect 'written off' that money it's yours to spend!! :j** Official DFW Nerd Club Member 009**

Well done for not wasting £3 on a sandwich. THREE POUNDS!! That's actually a lot of money! By not spending your £3, you may actually save yourself quite a bit. Imagine all those people that spend £3 every day they work!
£3 x 5 days per week x 45 weeks per year = £675
£675 per year x 40 year career = £27,000 :j
Of course if you were to invest each £3 a day in a savings account @ 8% that paid interest monthly and let it grow for 40 years, you'd be just shy of an extra £200k when you retired   :cool:0 -
Amosworks,
Wow I could be a millionaire by the time I retire if i put the amount i'm spending on my debt away each month!! Scary thought!0 -
Yeap, well that's my plan all along

Except replace "million" with "billion" and then prepend it with "multi-"
BTW, I noticed in your signature that your debt free date is 2014  If you follow the "Transforming debt in to wealth" program, I confidently reckon you could make that date 2010 at the latest.
Good luck!0 -
Thanks Amosworks,
2014 is if I leave my student loan with just min repayments. Will be working hard to get rid much faster though.
Where do I get hold of the transforming debt into wealth program? Think a little inspiration is always good.0
