When you say you buy food at work, you mean you buy your lunch / snacks and things? Definitely stop that, it makes all the difference. Add it up over a week, month, year and you'll see!

  • Or the other option is to sell it and buy a cheap runaround for £500, £2000 would pay off one of my cards. But will still have the expense each month.

Where I get the £181 from I have no idea!

Probably by adding it to your debt!

The first step is clearly to find a way to live below your means. Cancelling or reducing your sky package, reducing your groceries spend (see the old style board for help with this), cancelling your Gas Care payment, and getting rid of the car would all help you to acheive this.

Unless you can begin living below your means, you will only ever add to the debt, not reduce it!

You can definitely cut down on the food bill - I am aiming for £200 next month for 4 of us, and we really aren't missing out. Just takes a bit of forward planning. I still buy a lot of organic stuff as well so plenty of room for further cutbacks here. Perhaps try it for a month (grcery challenge over on oldstyle).

Also with your working/studying do you really use sky? It would definitely help you to reduce/get rid.

it's hard - it was a shock taking stock of my SOA to say the least.

I posted this on another thread last night, which kind of explains how I've done it.

Essentially, I just stopped spending on anything I didn't need - and made it my number 1 priority

Ooh i like the percentage thing on your signature Chortle. Just worked out i've paid off 29% of my debt since my lightbulb moment 6 months ago. That feels a lot better than the actual numbers to be honest!
